He let her go once. This time he’s playing for keeps.

Colters’ Legacy, Book 3

Callie Colter once chased sunsets all over the world. Until Max. Together they were a perfect storm of desire, and she reveled in the beautiful power. Then he disappeared without a word, and the betrayal drove her home to lick her wounds.

Who knew he’d have the gall to show his face in her brother’s bar.

Max Wilder figures he deserves Callie’s right hook to the jaw, but it changes nothing. He had his reasons for pursuing her across Europe, for making her fall in love with him. But when she took everything he gave and offered more, she changed all the rules. He had no choice leaving her, but he’s back. This time for the right reasons.

Callie is angry and hurt, yet powerless against Max’s relentless onslaught. He’ll settle for nothing less than her complete surrender—and her love. Only when she’s back in his arms will he be truly happy. And the damning truth can stay safely tucked away.

Except the truth has a way of creeping to the surface, and Max may just be out of second chances.

Warning This title contains adult language, explicit sex, rough sex, anal sex. In other words...sex! Also contains themes of D/s which might offend some readers. Lots of angst, emotion and betrayal. Second chances and lots of warm fuzzies.

It has been a little while since I read book one and two so I had to refresh my memory a bit because between books one and two there are eight characters (six men, two women). Book three featured the youngest Colter Callie and her healing from the heartbreak that was hinted at in book two. I was interested to read about the first female Colter since the first two books followed two sets of brothers.

Callie returned home after her heart was broken in Europe. As the book unpacks itself the reader discovers she fell in love with a man named Max only to be abandoned at a hotel. He promised to return but didn't and one night he shows up near Colters' Mountain. She refuses to see him but he wears her down and they agree to begin their relationship again. He's a natural dominant and she's a submissive so the book is filled with sexual moments between the two. As their relationship progresses a secret threatens to tear them apart.

I remember feeling the almost debut author sense from the first two books but this one surprised me pleasantly. This one seemed to be much more similar to Ms. Banks "Sweet" series in both positive and negative ways.

I really liked Callie. A lot of times submissive women are so submissive I want to scream. They can't function or do anything useful unless a man is telling them how to handle their lives. They're shy and unsure of themselves in a lot of books. In this one, Callie has loads of confidence and manages to have a life even when she's hurting. She has a vast support system and knows what she wants. I really loved that attitude. She wasn't a doormat and Max loved her for it. He wanted dominance in the bedroom and decisions but he wanted a spitfire the rest of the time. It was nice she wasn't hampered by arbitrary rules for punishment scenes.

At the same time I've seen this premise in loads of Maya Banks work. I've seen the D/s scenes and the loads of sex scenes to justify the statement of their D/s relationship. While I enjoy the premise I felt this book was a bit of a rehash. Sweet Persuasion was a better book. Burn was a better book. A lot of the books I've read of Ms. Banks featuring the D/s relationship dynamics were better books. I'm not sure if it was the characters or the development but by the time the book went into loads of sex scenes, I was skipping pages. I liked the regular tension and I felt the sub-par sex scenes ruined the middle of the book.

Basically it was an average read. It wasn't one of my favorites but necessary to the continuation of the series. Clearly this was supposed to be the last book but it went on for two more. If you've read the first two then I recommend picking this one up.

Colters' Daughter Colters' Legacy Book 3 edition by Maya Banks Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

If you haven't read the other books in the Colters series, I suggest you do that before reading this one. (Don't worry, they're all good.) In this book we find out what brought Callie back home and why she isn't acting like herself. On her travels she met a man, Max and fell in love. One day he left with promises of coming back but never did. Little does Callie know but max is hot on her trail and determined to win her back. However there is something in his past, something he's not telling Callie that may destroy her when she finds out. Unlike the other books in the Colters series, this book is strictly m/f, with light BDSM. No cliffhanger, HEA. No cheating or other men/women for the h or H.
this book was about the daughter callie. growing up wih 3 brothers and 3 father should of made this girl take crap from no one. max dumps her and the next thing we are now submerged into dominance and submissive garbage. it was soooo stupid the things he demanded from her like the cavemen days. who would put up with this crap. pissed me off. this book makes for women to feel bad bout themselves, screw it don't buy this and maybe the author will get the message about rape, s&m and the stupid overdone sex scenes in this book. this series was a waste of my time and money don't waste yours
Read the first two Coltler books and really enjoyed them. This one not so much. Callie having that type of relationship with someone i dont buy. hated the part when max gives her the cuffs like shes a slave he bought. Wanted to yell at her to run away. The ending was good, but did not enjoy most of it.
I almost couldn't finish this book. I wasn't too wild about the rough sex in the previous books in this series, as they all the while claimed the men were so gentle and caring (only outside the bedroom apparently). In terms of rough sex, this book makes the others in this series look downright tame. I understand that some people might want/desire/like violent/painful sex, but to imply that a relationship that includes such behavior is gentle, caring or loving is beyond my understanding and just seemed unbelievably manipulative. I didn't like Max throughout most of the book and even though I liked Callie in the previous book, I had a really hard time identifying or sympathizing with her. The only things I liked about this book was seeing the rest of the Colter family and the ending. The ending was great! I loved the ending, but it was the only point in the story when I actually liked the hero, Max. If you like Dominate/Submissive stories you may like this, but I had a hard time buying Callie as a submissive, it seemed too out of character.
I LOVE the books about Callie's dads' and her brothers' however this story sucked. When you read a book and get a sense of the characters, a picture of how they look, their personality to me Callie in this book was not the Callie of Colters' Lady. Callie was supposed to be this fun loving, independant, world travelling young woman. Yet in this book she is a submissive??? She was going to let Max (the A hole) tell her when to dress how to dress, sit at his feet like a freakin' dog while he fed her and himself, have access to her body when and where he liked? NO WAY!!!! For me that went too far. If I was her I would have told him to get lost when he came back to find her.
The only reason I didn't delete this from my kindle is because it's part of the trilogy and I hate having things unfinished, even though I won't be reading it again like I will the ones of the dads and brothers.
As for Max what a waste of time. He was too much of a bastard in the book, he wasn't right for Callie.
